Kevin Mayhew's MK I Australian Capri

How did I get into this..? Well, I have recently purchased a one-owner 1970 Mark 1 V63000 GT (with the Essex motor and original 4-speed gearbox) to restore. The whole "undercarriage" has been completely re-done and my brother (the mechanic in the family and fast becoming a Capri enthusiast...) and I have just rebuilt the motor - nothing wrong, just wanted to know what it was like inside!

The interior of the Capri is original and excellent. The body requires a little TLC, but that will come in February (2004) when it gets a new coat of paint. I plan to keep it as original as I possibly can afford for as long as I can. You see, they only started "making" the Mark 1 out here in June 1970 and mine is a September 1970 production vehicle... so it is one of the very first to come out here in Oz. Quite apart from other reasons, it makes me feel that I own a little bit of Ford's early history and should do all I can to keep it that way - despite the obvious issues one has with a 4-speed gearbox.

I am also a member of the Capri Club of Victoria - back here in Oz.
The Club was formed in 1982 and although originally established with the Australian assembled Ford Capri Mark 1 in mind, the Club caters for all Ford cars with the Capri name.
